The Boston Globe – CEO at Horizons for Homeless Children stepping down after 10 years

Boston – After a decade of transformative leadership, Kate Barrand, President and CEO of Horizons for Homeless Children, has announced she will retire this fall. Barrand, who initially expected to serve in an interim capacity, ultimately led the organization through a period of significant growth and innovation, strengthening its ability to serve children experiencing homelessness across the region.

During her tenure, Barrand oversaw increasing Horizons’ annual budget to approximately $20 million, expanded services to reach more than 250 children, and led key operational improvements, including investments in staffing and technology. Most notably, she presided over the development of the Edgerley Family Horizons Center in Roxbury, a state-of-the-art facility that consolidated multiple preschool sites into one permanent home for the organization’s programs.

Barrand’s leadership has left a lasting impact on Horizons and the families it serves. As she prepares to step down, the organization has engaged a national search firm to identify its next CEO.
